Press Release Template for Product Launches (2026 AP-Style)

A clean press release template for startups and tool launches — headline, lede, quotes, boilerplate, and distribution checklist that reporters actually scan.

A press release is not a blog post. Reporters skim for news value in 10 seconds. If the news isn’t in the first paragraph, you already lost.

When a press release is worth writing

  • Real launch or major feature ship
  • Partnership with known brands
  • Funding / milestone with numbers
  • Research or data nobody else has

Skip it for minor UI tweaks dressed as “revolution.”

AP-style template

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City, Date

Headline

Outcome + who + novelty
Example: FlowCaptions Launches Free AI Presentation Maker With One-Click PPTX Export

Lede (1 paragraph)

Who did what, when, why it matters — include the key fact early.

Body

  • Problem context (2–3 sentences)
  • What shipped (features as facts, not hype)
  • Proof point (users, speed, free access, etc.)

Quote

One founder/operator quote with a human voice. Not “We’re thrilled to announce synergy.”

Boilerplate

2–3 sentences about the company.

Contact

Name, email, URL.

Headline formulas

  1. Brand + launches + product + standout feature
  2. Brand + opens + free tool for + audience
  3. Data release: “New report finds X”

Distribution checklist

  1. Publish on your newsroom / blog URL
  2. Send to niche journalists with a personalized first line
  3. Attach 1 screenshot + logo pack
  4. Offer a founder interview in the email
  5. Follow up once — not five times
